Journalism

I have been writing the Culinary Travels Blog since 2008. Before this, I had been passionately and almost obsessively cooking and travelling as much as I could, often from my armchair via my vast and eclectic cookbook collection.

I write the blog for pleasure and out of passion, and, other than advertising revenue, I make no money from the running of this site. I do, however, write freelance elsewhere, and if you would like me to write for your site or publication, I would love to talk to you.

I specialise in all things culinary however I am not just interested in food; I also write travel & lifestyle pieces.

I write here, there and everywhere, so please browse my portfolio for examples of my work.

I hold Diplomas in Food Journalism and Freelance Journalism.

Photography

All photography on this site is available for sale unless otherwise specified.

Please browse my portfolio for examples of my work.

If you would like to commission me or buy any of my photos, do contact me.

Recipe Development/Consultation

The majority of the recipes on the site are either my creation or have been adapted in some way from elsewhere.

The directions' wording will always be my own rather than using a verbatim copy of the original. I will say so and point out any adaptations made when I am using a recipe previously published in a book or magazine. Unless otherwise stated, the recipe will be from my personal copy of the book. If the book is a review copy sent by a publishing house, I will say so.

If I am using or adapting a recipe found elsewhere online, I will link to where it originated.

I test all of my recipes thoroughly and only share recipes that you really should make. If you try them, I would love to hear how it goes!

I create recipes and themed menus for food and drink clients whose products I appreciate and use.

Please get in touch with me if you would like my rates.

Editorial Policy

I do not give my recipes/articles/photographs away for free, no matter how much the request is dressed up as an opportunity for increased traffic or exposure.

You can send me products, and I may mention/review them. I do not guarantee to write about every sample I am sent as this is becoming increasingly impossible. I have used a product that was sent to me for free, and I will mention this in the blog post.

I do accept books for review, although it may take some time.

I do accept UK & foreign travel opportunities.

Advertising & Commissioned Posts

I feature advertisements in a rotating gallery on the Home Page.

Advertising is payable at least one month in advance with a discount when paying quarterly in advance.

I will only accept advertising for brands/sites which I feel are relevant to my readers.

Culinary Travels features occasional sponsored posts, and this is always clearly indicated.

A commissioned or sponsored post usually takes the form of partnership content with brands (recipes, travel guides, and more) and occasionally hosted visits or meals.

If you would like specific images or text incorporated into a post, and they meet with my approval, this would qualify as a commissioned post.

Please contact me to discuss rates for advertising.

Reviews

All reviews published on the site will reflect my genuine opinion of the product/venue/event.

Restaurants & Travel

The vast majority of these posts are the result of a personal visit paid for by myself. Where I have visited the same destination multiple times, I will say so, but otherwise, you can assume my review is based on a single experience.

Occasionally I am fortunate enough to receive invitations to dine for free or receive free tickets to establishments. Where this is the case, I will clearly state this in the blog post, and you can be confident that this has no impact on my editorial opinion.

Giveaways

I am happy to host giveaways for brands but need several weeks’ notice as there are often other giveaways waiting to be run. Jumping the queue or booking a particular week is possible – for a fee.

PR companies/brands are responsible for posting items promptly to readers chosen using an online randomiser.

Giveaways usually take place no more than monthly.

I promote giveaways on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook.
