Tuesday 16 February, many people in the UK, and further afield will celebrate Shrove Tuesday. Before abstaining from some of their favourite foods during Lent, the pancakes will be the meal and/or dessert of choice. Pancake day has always been one of the best yearly traditions, and we all remember the excitement of our first pancake flip (or fail?) Just because you’re an adult now doesn’t mean the magic needs to be lost.
I have flippin' good news for you!
Let Griddle and JimJams help bring a super tasty solution for your Pancake Day - seriously you can have fluffy American style pancakes with chocolate spread and not worry about the calories, so long as your follow the portion size guidelines.
Griddle's fibre packed pancakes are made from a healthy wholegrain blend of wheat, organic rye and organic barley flours, making them not just nutritionally better than your standard white flour pancakes but much tastier and filling too.
JimJams have obtained the Great Taste Award for their winning Chocolate Spreads with No Added Sugar! Seriously chocolate spread with no added sugar.
JimJams – 50 calories per dessert spoon

Oh, yes, you can! The Griddle pancake mix and the Jim Jams chocolate spread are all made with 100% plant-based ingredients, making them 100% vegan. Whether you're a bona fide vegan or just wanting to introduce more plant-based dishes to your diet (maybe you were inspired by Veganuary) the delicious products are right for you.
If you are vegetarian and want to include some dairy products you can do so. The pancake mix can either be made up with plant-based milk; alternatively, you can use dairy milk and a couple of eggs. I used homemade hazelnut milk and no eggs, but I wish I'd tried both methods to compare the taste and textures, I think the eggs might make them a little fluffier.
Homemade hazelnut milk? Keep an eye on Culinary Travels as the recipe will be coming soon!
I would most likely not repurchase the Griddle pancakes because I like to prepare items like this from scratch, and have no dietary restrictions. If I required a vegan diet, I would be racing to stock up on these healthy products.
The JimJams chocolate spreads, however, oh yeah, baby! That will be making its way onto my pantry shelves to become a staple item. I couldn't believe how good it tasted for a vegan, no added sugar product. It is so creamy and intensely chocolatey that another well-known brand will not grace my shelves again.
Instead of making fluffy American style pancakes, you could try making the batter a little thinner and cooking French style crepes to fill and roll-up. Yum!
Which would you prefer? Let me know in the comments, please.
